One bold prediction for Ravens No. 30 overall pick Nate Wiggins in 2024 NFL season
Did the Baltimore Ravens draft their next stud cornerback in Nate Wiggins?
The Clemson product entered the draft as one of the top cornerback prospects and the Ravens were over thrilled when he was there when they selected him with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
An absolute terror in the ACC, Wiggins only allowed one completion over 20 yards in his final season. With tremendous speed and ability as a cover corner, the 6-foot-1, 173-pound cornerback will be a great fit in Baltimore playing behind veterans Marlon Humphrey and Brandon Stephens as a rookie.
As the Ravens look to defend their AFC North title, Wiggins will be thrown in the fire Year 1 going up against offenses that feature the likes of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and George Pickens. That’s just within the division.
What the Baltimore Ravens could have in Nate Wiggins
If Wiggins lives up to his talent, he could anchor the Ravens secondary for years to come. With his athleticism, speed and a physical flame that still has room for growth, this defensive stud out of the ACC should be a nuisance in the AFC North for years to come and the next defensive star to wear the purple and black. Already impressing teammates like fellow cornerback Arthur Maulet, his impact in Year 1 will depend on how well he learns from mistakes and transitions his talent to the NFL level.
The speed is obvious, but speed isn’t the only thing that makes a great corner.
"[Nate] Wiggins; he's really fast. Everybody is [saying] that, right? [He's] really fast, [and he has] open ears [and is] ready to learn,” Maulet said when asked what impressed him about Wiggins. “He's cool with taking criticism and learning. That's the biggest thing with rookies that you don't see a lot of. He's open with taking criticism and learning, he asks questions, he's in the film study, he works on his technique [and] he's not always relying on his speed. I really like that about him. He's going to be a really good player in the future and now."
Bold prediction for the 2024 NFL season
Wiggins will be put to the test right away when the Ravens take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener. There’s a potential he could be matched up against speedy rookie Xavier Worthy which will be an intriguing matchup if it comes to fruition.
In all, Wiggins will have his struggles during the regular season, but there will be spots where he shines in the secondary. He will record 5 interceptions in his rookie season, including a pick-6 as he will emerge as the team’s second-best corner by the end of the season. His best game of the season will come against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5. In that big AFC North matchup, Wiggins will introduce himself to the NFL by intercepting Joe Burrow and locking down Tee Higgins in a Ravens victory.
