NFL rumors: These 3 Super Bowl contenders have Bill Belichick in their back pocket if all else fails in 2024
Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Sirianni hearing Bill Belichick footsteps if he doesn't fix things in 2024
Nick Sirianni will have another chance in 2024 to lead the Philadelphia Eagles back to the Super Bowl, but with Bill Belichick out there an available, he will have a ton of pressure on him with how the team faltered down the stretch and faded in the playoffs.
The Eagles dealt with injuries, but the drama with A.J. Brown and the overall collapse of the Eagles has owner Jeffrey Lurie monitoring what’s going on in the locker room. If things don’t get fixed and the team had a similar collapse in 2024, Sirianni out, Belichick in?
Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal has put some mustard on that rumor stating that the Eagles “were very interested in Belichick” if things didn’t work out for Sirianni. That was after their 1-6 finished to end the 2023 NFL season. Sirianni still has an opportunity to right what went wrong in Philly, but that rumbling should have him in the spotlight and in the hotseat in 2024.
“I told you guys that before the end of the season that teams had already reached out to Bill, backchanneled on Bill, I thought the Falcons were definitely one of them,” Bedard went on to say while appearing on 98.5 The Sports Hub. “I’m now pretty convinced that the Eagles were the other one. When things were going south, they thought this might end poorly with Sirianni and I wouldn’t be surprised given the relationship that [G.M.] Howie [Roseman[ and Bill have that the Eagles were one of those teams to backchannel through Bill.”
There is no reason a healthy Eagles team won’t be back in the mix in 2024. They have some holes to fill, but they have top talent on both sides of the ball and a quarterback in Jalen Hurts, Belichick would love to coach. Also, imagine the schemes Belichick could draw up with the talent the team has on defense, especially that front seven with players like Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Hasson Reddick and Josh Sweat anchoring the defense.
