Houston Texans are the team to watch in the Mike Evans Sweepstakes

A team to watch out for in the Mike Evans sweepstakes are the Houston Texans.  Coming off a 10-7 season and a playoff win, the Texans would show the rest of the NFL they are for real if they land Evans.

The appeal for the veteran receiver would be playing with a young talent like C.J. Stroud and would also give him an opportunity to finish his career at home.

CBS Sports writer Cody Benjamin has the Texans as a suitor for Evans for exactly those reasons.

He writes:

“The Texans' playoff loss to Baltimore proved rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud could use more help. In truth, their O-line warrants more attention. But Evans is the kind of alpha No. 1 who could accelerate Stroud's already-impressive growth, while taking pressure off younger weapons like Nico Collins and Tank Dell. With close to $70M in cap space, money shouldn't be an issue. As a bonus, Evans was born and raised in Texas, making this a potential homecoming.”

As a team with a young core, they could be a veteran player like Evans away from making even more noise in 2024.  With his experience and championship level play, he would make Stroud even better in his sophomore year and make the Texans a big threat in the AFC next season.

Teams that didn’t make this list include the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears, all great fits for Evans, but don’t be surprise if some team no one is mentioning makes Evans an offer he can’t resist if and when he does hit NFL free agency.
