New England Patriots: Could a Mike Evans signing change the game in Foxborough?

The Patriots are on this list because obviously they need a No. 1 receiver and have the cap space to throw big bucks at the star.  But just because Bill Belichick is no longer calling the shots, it doesn’t mean the Patriots will suddenly turn into a team throwing out outrageous big money at some of the top free agents. 

At this point in the game, Jerod Mayo and the new regime have many positions they need to upgrade.  One big decision will be what to do with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.  If they do decide to go quarterback, landing a veteran wide receiver like Evans could benefit the young gunslinger.  As a free agency destination, that may not appeal to a veteran like Evans unless the money talk.

One twist that could tempt Evans is if the Patriots landed a veteran quarterback like Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield in free agency.  That would then lead to the Patriots using that No. 3 pick on a player like Marvin Harrison Jr.  Suddenly the Patriots would go from no big playmakers to one of the top wide receiver duos in the NFL.  That is something Patriots fans could only dream of during the Belichick era.
