Mike Evans landing spots: Best fits and the one team to watch in 2024 NFL Free Agency
New York Jets: The Aaron Rodgers to Mike Evans connection would be special
There won’t be a team out there not interested in Mike Evans or at least kicking the tires on a possible free agency signing, but there are teams that are a top receiver away from something special. One of those teams is the New York Jets with the return of Aaron Rodgers.
In what was a lost season for the Jets due to Rodgers’ season-ending injury, the team is locked in on adding another playmaker to the mix and that could be Evans. According to Rick Stroud of the New York Post, the Jets did inquire about Evans before the NFL trade deadline. That was with Zach Wilson as quarterback. Obviously, those conversations got nowhere, but with Evans approaching free agency, the appeal could be greater for the star receiver to pair up with Rodgers…imagine that?
Given the type of season Evans had catching the ball from Mayfield, he could form an even more special connection with a veteran All-Pro quarterback like Rodgers. You know, like he did during his three seasons with Tom Brady.
With a solid defense and patching up that offensive line, the Jets are a great fit for Evans because he will be a top target without all the pressure on him. The potential arrival of a player like Evans would allow Garrett Wilson to flourish and would allow Allen Lazard to slip into that No. 3 receiver role which would make him more effective in the Jets’ offense, especially with the return of Rodgers.
