Mac Jones Trade Rumors: Three ideal landing spots for Patriots QB (to revive his NFL career)

San Francisco 49ers - because Kyle Shanahan wanted to draft him

The ideal fit for Mac Jones is the team that was reportedly going to draft him high in that 2021 NFL Draft.  Coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Kanas City Chiefs, Kyle Shanahan and the NFC Champions are already making some desperation moves this offseason in firing defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.  Not saying they would make a move at quarterback, but would Shanahan bring in some competition for Brock Purdy?

With the elite offensive weapons, the 49ers have, it could come to a point where Shanahan will have to decide if his team can get over the hump with Purdy as quarterback.  Is a player like Jones any better?  Fans around the league, especially Patriots fans, would cringe at the thought of Jones being a better option than Purdy, but coaching and all those weapons around him would at least make him just as capable.

This is a first-round talent vs a seventh-round pick we are talking about.  What Purdy has done with the 49ers is exactly what Mac Jones was trending to be during his rookie year.  Again, it’s Purdy’s job to lose, but in a backup situation, the 49ers are the ideal situation for Jones who would have a chance to learn how to lead an offense.

Over the next few weeks, it will be interesting to see which other NFL teams emerge in trade rumors and where Mac Jones ultimately lands.
