Pittsburgh Steelers a team in pursuit of Fields?

Another competitive team emerging in the Justin Fields sweepstakes (if he is traded) are the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This is an interesting destination and one that makes sense given the Steelers did find a way to make the playoffs despite instability at the QB position in 2023.  Kenny Pickett, who secured the starting role prior to the season, had his season ended prematurely due to an injury.  Even when healthy, he didn’t quite prove to be the man in Pittsburgh.  Mason Rudolph emerged late in the season, but he is set to explore free agency.

Instead of drafting another young quarterback, it appears the Steelers are seeking an upgrade at the position by bringing a veteran in to compete with Pickett.  As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday, the Steelers have intrigue in the options out there like Ryan Tannehill, Russell Wilson, and Fields.

Schefter also threw in this nugget during his appearance on The Pat McAffee Show and that is that “Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields.”

With a defense that is always at or near the top of the league and some playmakers on offense, Fields could flourish in Pittsburgh as the Steelers have a similar team as the Bears, but maybe a little more talent on offense; an offense that was inconsistent through much of the 2023 NFL season.

Could Fields be the jolt they need?
