Dolphins Mock Draft: What can Miami do to put roster over the top?
By Hunter Haas
The Miami Dolphins hit the ground running in 2023, starting 9-3 and sitting in prime position to host a playoff game. Unfortunately, the team stumbled through the final month and a half, finishing 11-6 and losing out on a party in South Beach.
In doing so, Miami was forced to travel to Kansas City to square off against the defending Super Bowl champions. Even worse, the game was played in near record-low weather conditions, naturally giving the Chiefs an upper hand.
Dolphins Mock Draft: Where does Miami turn to improve roster?
But it wasn’t the fact the Dolphins lost that stings the most — it’s the way it occurred. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was unable to attack the defense with his usual efficiency, and the play calling from head coach Mike McDaniel suffered as a result.
Injuries also deserve a chunk of blame, as the defense lost several contributors in recent weeks, while superstar wideout Jaylen Waddle and veteran running back Raheem Mostert were clearly less than 100 percent. All in all, everything that could have gone wrong did.
But there are still plenty of positives to build upon. The offense, when healthy — and not in extreme winter conditions — proved capable of scoring at will. The defense, when healthy, has the talent to perform better than the unit did in 2023. Plus, McDaniel is arguably one of the better head coaches in the league already.
So, with more going in their favor than not, what should the Miami front office do in the offseason to get this roster over the hump? In today’s mock draft, let’s attempt to do just that. Without further ado, the Dolphins are on the clock at No. 23 overall.
