As the college football playoffs season is upon us, NFL scouts are eagerly tuning in to observe the potential future stars of the NFL. Here, we present ten of the most promising players from Michigan, Alabama, Texas and Washington, who are likely to make a mark by becoming first-round picks in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft.
Rome Odunze, the wide receiver for Washington, has a knack for making big plays. His speed, coupled with his route-running ability, makes him a lethal offensive weapon. Odunze's playmaking ability will surely make him a top WR pick in the NFL draft.

Season Statistics:
- Total Receptions: 81
- Receiving Yards: 1,428
- Receiving Touchdowns: 13
Ideal Draft Position
Odunze will be the third WR off the board; the Jets at nine, the Saints at 11th or the Cardinals at No.15.
Alabama's cornerback duo, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold has been a formidable force in the team's defense. Their ability to read plays and intercept the ball has been instrumental in Alabama's solid defensive performance. Both players are likely to be high picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
McKinstry's season statistics:
- Total Tackles: 27
- Total Interceptions: 3
- Pass Deflections: 7
Ideal Draft Position:
McKinstry will be the first CB and defender off the board, the Commander at four, the Giants at five are likely, or the Bears with the seventh.
Arnold's season statistics:
- Total Tackles: 61
- Total Interceptions: 5
- Pass Deflections: 11
Ideal Draft Position:
Arnold will go right after Kool-aid, possibly seventh to the Bears, the Raiders at eight, or paired with fellow Crimson Tide alum Asante Samuel Jr. with the Broncos at 16.
Troy Fautanu, the offensive guard from Washington, has been a driving force behind the team's success this season. His consistency and ability to create space for the running backs have been a significant asset for the team. Fautanu's skills will likely make him a top-10 pick in the NFL draft.
Season Statistics:
- Total Blocks: 36
- Total Tackles: 49
- Total Sacks Allowed: 2
Ideal Draft Position:
Fautanu is the top OG in the Draft, but seeing him in a top-10 pick is unlikely. The Seahawks at 13 or the Cardinals with their 15th pick is possible, but I like the Steelers at 23 or the 49ers at 30.

JC Latham, Offensive Tackle, Alabama
Alabama's offensive tackle, JC Latham, has been a rock-solid presence on the team. His impeccable performance this season is owed to his tactfulness and strength. Latham's ability to protect his quarterback makes him a valuable asset for any NFL team.
Season Statistics:
- Total Blocks: 42
- Total Tackles: 52
- Total Sacks Allowed: 1
Ideal Draft Position:
The Titans at six may like him after last year's first-round pick Peter Skoronski looked like a bust; then there is the Chargers at tenth or slipping to the Colts at 21.
Dallas Turner, the edge rusher from Alabama, has had an outstanding season. Known for his agility and speed, Turner has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. His knack for forcing turnovers and disrupting plays increases his prospects for the NFL draft.
Season Statistics:
- Total Tackles: 49
- Total Sacks: 9
- Forced Fumbles: 2
Ideal Draft Position:
Turner is the Will Anderson Jr. of 2024. We could see a team move up with the Bears and grab him, but he will likely go fourth to the Commanders or drop to the Saints or Falcons at 11 or 12.
T'Vondre Sweat, the defensive tackle from Texas, has been a revelation this season. His strength and ability to disrupt the opponent's offensive line make him a desired prospect for the NFL draft.
Season Statistics:
- Total Tackles: 42
- Total Sacks: 2
- Pass Deflections: 5
Ideal Draft Position
Sweat will have to impress in the Playoffs, or he could slip to the mid-second round. He is the third-ranked DT in the Draft behind Jer'Zhan Newton and Ohio State's Tyleik Williams. The Jaguars on the 26th or the Cowboys with the 28th would be a win for Sweat.
Michigan's quarterback, JJ McCarthy, has been instrumental in leading his team to the playoffs. His passing accuracy and ability to make plays with his legs make him a dynamic quarterback prospect for the NFL draft.

Season Statistics:
- Completion Percentage: 74.2 percent
- Passing Yards: 2,630
- Passing Touchdowns: 19
Ideal Draft Position
JJ has shown he is pro-ready, but there is a to their QB at every style in this Draft. He will most likely be the 4th QB off the board behind Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels. McCarthy landing at 19 with the Bucs, or the match made in Wolverine heaven, the Lions, at 27th.
Rod Moore, Safety, Michigan
Michigan's safety, Rod Moore, has shown his worth in the team's defense. His ability to read the play and make critical tackles has been instrumental in Michigan's defensive efforts. Moore's consistent performance this season makes him a strong candidate for the NFL draft.

Season Statistics:
- Total Tackles: 37
- Interceptions: 4
- Pass Deflections: 6
Ideal Draft Position
Rob Moore is another guy on the cusp of getting slept on and missing the first round, not because of his skill or draft-worthiness. He is the most complete safety prospect since Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton, but Two safeties stand in his way: Kamren Kinchens and Tyler Nubin of Minnesota. However, I could see the Eagles making the grab at 32.
Washington's quarterback, Michael Penix Jr, has had an exceptional season. His passing accuracy and ability to extend plays with his legs make him one of the top prospects for the NFL draft.

Season Statistics:
- Completion Percentage: 65.9%
- Passing Yards: 4,218
- Passing Touchdowns: 33
Ideal Draft Position
This is another instance of an accomplished top-tier QB in a crowded QB class, but Penix will fit excellently in Minnesota under Kirk Cousins for a year. The Vikes are at 22, or the Steelers at 23; after that, he becomes a second-round steal with Bo Nix.
Mitchell is the second-best wide receiver for Texas but the best pro prospect. He has a knack for finding the end zone, twice as much as his counterpart, Xavier Worthy. His speed, route-running ability, and Size make him a lethal offensive weapon.

Season Statistics:
- Total Receptions: 51
- Receiving Yards: 813
- Receiving Touchdowns: 10
Ideal Draft Position
Mitchell will go before Worthy, and The Chiefs are undoubtedly drafting a WR at 25. All our mock drafts point to it being Mitchell, almost a bankable pick. During the College Playoffs, he can secure his destiny with ten receptions/200 yards/two TD line in the Sugar Bowl and National Championship games.
With these players' performance in the college football playoffs, they are certainly ones to watch in the upcoming NFL draft. These young athletes have showcased their skills and ability to perform under pressure, making them highly sought after by NFL teams.
