Caleb Williams enters 2024 NFL Draft: 5 fascinating landing spots for USC star QB, 2022 Heisman winner
Washington Commanders: USC Star quarterback could bring new hope to D.C.
The Commanders could be sitting pretty at the No. 2 overall spot. If the Bears stand pat and go with Fields, they may turn their attention to Marvin Harrison Jr. No.1 overall, which would leave the Commanders in a position to select Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
Although Sam Howell showed flash this season, a quarterback hungry team like the Commanders will not pass up on the opportunity to select a generational talent like Williams. ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote weeks back that Washington would be “very interested” in the 2022 Heisman winner, even if it takes trading up a spot for him.
“The Commanders, with a break here or there over the next couple of weeks, could find themselves in position to either draft Williams or trade up a spot or two to get him,” Graziano wrote, via Bleacher Report.
At that time, the Commanders weren’t locked in at the No. 2 position. Now that they are, if Caleb Williams get past Chicago, it doesn’t look like Washington would pass him up.
Unlike the Patriots, at least as it stands now, the Commanders have a couple of weapons in Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson who could help the D.C. native flourish as a rookie. Whoever the team hires as their new head coach will also dictate the success of the USC star, especially if it’s a offensive minded coach like Eric Bieniemy or Ben Johnson.
