2025 NFL Mock Draft roundup: Broncos land Heisman Trophy frontrunner Travis Hunter
One of the big questions surfacing as both the college football and NFL season moves forward is who will be in position to select Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With each game, the explosive cornerback/wide receiver gives NFL scouts and fanbases throughout the NFL new reasons to marvel over his skillset. As one of the nation’s top candidates to take home the 2024 Heisman Trophy, NFL mock drafts will be in a frenzy to predict which team selects the elite talent.
It will come down to needs of a team, but given his two-way ability, it may be tough for any team to pass up on Hunter as he is the type of player who would spark both the offensive and defensive side of any team. One of those teams could keep the Heisman candidate in the state of Colorado.
Chris Trapasso’s latest CBS.com NFL Mock Draft: Broncos keep Hunter in Colorado with No. 5 overall pick
Chris Trapasso's latest CBS.com NFL Mock Draft has Hunter staying right in the state of Colorado as the Broncos select him with the No. 5 overall pick. Denver doesn't have a great need at cornerback, but with Courtland Sutton approaching free agency in two years, adding another wide receiver could benefit Sean Payton's offense.
In his latest mock draft, Trapasso writes:
“Sean Payton could manufacture so many unique ways to get Hunter the ball on offense, and in theory, he could add to the depth in the defensive backfield.”
There is no doubt Hunter will be a top 5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. If somehow that team is the Broncos, he could make immediate impacts on both sides of the ball. As Trapasso stated above, his athleticism on the offensive side of the ball will help Bo Nix and give Payton another playmaker who could do multiple things within the offense. His size combined with his explosive speed and acceleration after the catch makes him a perfect outlet type receiver in Payton’s system.
Defensively, the intrigue heightens. As one of the top cornerbacks in the nation, Hunter teaming up with Patrick Surtain would give the Broncos a highly talented, elite cornerback duo.
Other needs for the Denver Broncos
Selecting Hunter as a receiver will fit a need at the position as far as depth. As a corner, it would be more of a luxury as the team has locked up Surtain with a long-term contract. If Hunter is off the board or is out of reach depending on where the Broncos end up selecting, a couple of other needs is at tight end and the interior of their defensive line.
When it comes to tight ends, a great fit would be Michigan Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland. The dynamic play catching tight end has been nursing an injury early in the season, but his talent at the position is off the charts and would give Nix a big target to get the ball to.
As far as defensive interior lineman, Loveland’s teammate’s Mason Graham would be an upgrade along with Kentucky’s Deone Walker and South Carolina’s T.J. Sanders. All players who could go anywhere from the top 10 to mid-to-late first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
