2025 NFL Draft: 3 early ideal NFL fits for Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders found himself in the spotlight early in the 2023 college football season by leading the Colorado Buffaloes to thrilling victories. Now, the exciting quarterback is on top of the list when it comes to top quarterback prospects leading to the 2025 NFL Draft.
While the 2024 NFL Draft top quarterbacks have yet to scratch the surface in the NFL, we look forward to what 2025 will bring as far as potential franchise quarterbacks. It’s not as deep of a class, but Sanders, Georgia’s Carson Beck, Texas QB Quinn Ewers and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe top an interesting class.
In the upcoming months and throughout the college football season, there will be plenty of talk surrounding those quarterbacks, but much of the hype will be on Sanders who has already called himself a combination of Tom Brady and Michael Vick. Bold, but hey, Sanders showed elements of both during his 2023 season with 3,230 yards passing and 27 touchdown passes. In showcasing he can be a clean pocket passer, Sanders does have the ability to extend plays which is where the Vick comparison comes in.
Overall, the quarterback prospect has natural talent which is elevated by the same depth of confidence his head coach and dad Deion Sanders possesses. Talk that talk, walk that walk young man.
2025 NFL Draft: What NFL media analyst loves about Shedeur Sanders
In an early scouting report on Sanders, NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah sees a lot of Geno Smith in the Colorado star quarterback. The Pro Bowl version of Smith that is. Highlighted by the fireworks he created at the beginning of the 2023 season for the Buffaloes, Jeremiah is impressed with the natural skillset of the 2025 NFL Draft prospect.
Jeremiah writes:
“Sanders is a pure thrower with a compact, smooth stroke. He has excellent balance and weight transfer upon release, possessing plenty of arm strength to drive the ball downfield. He can throw with timing/anticipation, and he's adept at selecting the proper pace necessary for each throw.
His toughness is another quality that jumps off the screen. He will plant his feet in the ground while under duress, choosing to accept physical punishment in order to achieve completions. He took some enormous shots in the three games I studied.”
How Sanders improves his pocket presence and avoids those big hits will be something to watch this upcoming season.
3 early ideal NFL fits for Shedeur Sanders
When it comes which NFL team is the ultimate destination for the highly touted quarterback, NFL Mocks looks at which team may be in the hunt for a QB following the 2024 NFL season either as a starter right away or a team with a veteran who Sanders could play behind until he is ready. Also taken into consideration is places where his Colorado coach and dad Deion Sanders would want him to go. Let’s remember the elder Sanders made a statement that he didn’t want his son playing for a cold weather team.
With that in consideration, a team like the New York Giants is taken out of the mix although when it comes to the draft, teams will take their chances on a top talent if he is on the board when drafted. But, when thinking about what Sanders brings to the table, these 3 NFL squads could provide the perfect stage for the exciting quarterback talent.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints may have lit a match under veteran quarterback Derek Carr who has two years left on his 4-year, $150 million contract. In selecting Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Saints are looking towards the future when it comes to the quarterback position, but if Carr proves to be mediocre this upcoming season, a change could happen sooner rather than later.
While there is intrigue with Rattler, if the Saints are in position to draft Sheduer Sanders, it would be an ideal situation for the Colorado star who would get to play half his games in a dome and throw to the likes of Chris Olave. Any early success in New Orleans will depend on their offensive line where the Saints hope they improved with drafting Taliese Fuaga with the No. 14 overall pick in the draft.
Dallas Cowboys
Shedeur Sanders in the Big D? You know Deion would absolutely love that and so would Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who is always looking to put star power on the field.
Now, there are some variables with Dallas that will depend on the 2024 NFL season. The obvious one is Dak Prescott. With the 30-year-old QB entering the final year of his contract, there will be a decision to be made that may depend on what kind of season the Cowboys have and how far they go in the playoffs. If Prescott has another one and done playoff performance or the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs at all, expect Dallas to be highly rumored in selecting a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft to compete with Trey Lance. Sanders as the next quarterback of America’s Team would dominate headlines, but his talent and confidence in his ability would put him in a spotlight he will have to prove he is ready for.
Las Vegas Raiders
When it comes to draft position, the Raiders could be in the best position to select Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Unlike the Saints and Cowboys, Las Vegas is a team with no set QB going into the 2024 NFL season. After missing out on the top six signal callers in the draft, the Raiders will depend on either second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell or journeyman Gardner Minshew to run the offense in 2024. This could lead to an underwhelming season for this AFC West squad and a team in desperate need of a QB.
If that’s the case, you can bet on Sanders in Vegas. With Minshew signed to a two-year deal, the Raiders will have a veteran in place in case Sanders isn’t ready Day 1, but he’ll find a way to dazzle his way onto the field for the black & silver at least bringing some buzz to the organization.
