2024 NFL Mock Draft: One exciting first-round selection for each AFC East team
By Beau Adams
The New York Jets have a clear game plan for the 2024 NFL Draft. Their focus appears to be solidifying their offensive line—a strategy that makes sense given their recent struggles in this area. The Jets should be eyeing Penn State's offensive tackle, Olu Fashanu, as their No. 17 pick.
However, it's clear that Zack Wilson is not the guy, and with Aaron Rodgers returning under center in 2024, the Jets look to groom their next signal-caller under the Legendary Rodgers for a season.
So, with the No.17 overall pick in the 2024 AFC East Mock Draft, the New York Jets select Michigan quarterback J.J. Mccarthy.
The Broadway JJ? Giving one of the most effective in the draft a chance to learn from Rodgers will prove invaluable, and the Jets, after many decades of searching and experimenting, have the proper heir to Joe Namath.
McCarthy is a force to be reckoned with. His performances have led the Wolverines to a Big Ten Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoffs. McCarthy's precision, poise under pressure, and ability to change the game's dynamics have earned him a special place in the hearts of many fans.
J.J. McCarthy's scouting report highlights his strengths, including a whip-like arm that can fit throws into tight coverage, a crisp release, and the athleticism to bend and accelerate out of would-be sacks. He possesses good aerial accuracy and can layer velocity and touch on throws to hit receivers in stride. He also can look off safeties and work high to low on progressions. Additionally, he has good competitive toughness as a runner and is willing to finish forward.
He will fit perfectly in the Jets offense; talented weapons will surround him; the Jers will add more protection in the 2024 and 2025 draft, and Broadway J.J. will step into a second-year starting job in the perfect situation.
