Is this the week TreVeyon Henderson breaks out for the New England Patriots?
In a key AFC matchup at Gillette Stadium, the Patriots host Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. With both teams at 1-1 on the season, this could be one of the more pivotal games in Week 3. A win by the Patriots and suddenly they are on the heels of the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. As for the Steelers, they hope to stay pace with Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North.
While all eyes will be on second-year quarterback Drake Maye and his battle against Rodgers, a bigger key of the game will be the Patriots rushing attack against the Steelers run defense. That is where Henderson can play a vital role in Sunday’s game. After watching Rhamondre Stevenson have a big game against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2, is it Henderson’s turn to shine?
TreVeyon Henderson on his rookie experience thus far
After impressing in the preseason, Henderson hasn’t gotten off to an explosive start, but he has still made some plays running the ball and catching the ball that signals a big game is on the horizon. The second-round pick knows he just needs to be patient and adjust to heightened intensity of the NFL.
In other words, he just needs to be ready whenever he gets his chance on the field.
“The biggest thing I try to focus on is whatever opportunities that come my way, I try my best to take advantage of them,” Henderson told MassLive. “There’s a lot less possession in the NFL than in college, I believe. The biggest thing is, how can I help this team win games? Just trying to play my role, and the guys who do have success, being happy for them and cheering those guys on like the other backs in the room. The biggest thing is I’m trying to earn my role on this team and really help this team win games, however I can do so.”

TreVeyon Henderson vs Steelers’ run defense
Henderson has just 37 yards rushing this season, but in splitting reps with both Stephenson and Antonio Gibson, the second-round pick hasn’t gotten into a complete flow in the offense. He does have eight receptions for 54 yards, but he hasn’t had that big game Patriots fans have been excited for out of the Ohio State product. Going up against a Steelers team that has struggled against the run through two games could be the anecdote Henderson needs to get going.
The Steelers have allowed 100 or more yards on the ground in both games this season. That should trigger the Patriots to run more and use the speed of Henderson with draw plays and some quick passes out of the backfield. The bold prediction here is Henderson going over 120 yards from scrimmage and will score his first career NFL touchdown in a 24-16 Patriots win over the Steelers.
