2: Dallas Cowboys are the most intriguing team in the NFC East

It seems like every season there is intrigue around the Cowboys.  With an owner like Jerry Jones and a team as talented as the Cowboys, there is always a storyline with this team.  In what looks like a talented draft class, did Dallas have the type of draft that could have them as the team challenging the Philadelphia Eagles for the division?

Top Pick: The Cowboys kind of shocked the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Tyler Booker with the No. 12 overall pick in the draft.  The idea here or most projections were that the Cowboys would select a dynamic playmaker here.  Had either running back Ashton Jeanty or wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan slid past the top 10, perhaps we’d be having a different discussion here, but can’t get on the Cowboys for taking the best guard in the draft.  Booker is a powerhouse at 6-foot-5, 325 pounds and will help stabilize the Cowboys’ offensive line.  It starts in the trenches and Dallas good a good one.

Surprise Pick: We won’t name Booker twice in this rundown, so we will go with Shavon Revel Jr. here.  Not because of the player, but the fact he was available in the third round.  As a first-round talent, Revel could shine one fully healthy.  It was the ACL tear he suffered in September that was the cause for him sliding out of the first and second round of the draft.  If the Cowboys get a healthy Trevon Diggs and Revel Jr in 2025 to go along with DaRon Bland, that backend defense will be a problem.

Favorite Pick: Boston College product Donovan Ezeiruaku is a great pick for the Cowboys in the second round.  As a player who can get to the quarterback off the edge, Ezeiruaku will be a force playing alongside Micah Parsons and give the Cowboys depth at pass rush.  In leading the ACC with 16.5 sacks in 2024, this Cowboys rookie should be a force in the NFC East right away.

A potential steal of the draft: If the first three selections hit, the Cowboys could have the best draft class in the division at season’s end.  That would be solidified if they get anything from fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue.  The former Texas standout rushed for 730 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024 with the Longhorns.  But what really makes him intriguing is his production catching the ball out of the backfield.  In catching 42 passes for 368 yards, Blue could turn into a great third down option in the Cowboys’ offense.  Blue’s impact in Year 1 will depend on his ability to hold on to the ball.
