The New Orleans Saints wrapped up a disappointing 5-12 season, capped off by losing their final three games by a combined score of 86-29. To improve next season, the team must address key needs on both offense and defense. These include securing a starting right tackle, replacing several defensive linemen who could depart in the offseason, and adding a complementary wide receiver to pair with Chris Olave.

With several key defensive ends entering contract years—Chase Young and Payton Turner set to hit free agency, and Cam Jordan potentially being a cap casualty—addressing the edge rusher position becomes crucial. Abdul Carter from Penn State is a dynamic, explosive force off the edge. He offers versatility and the ability to challenge offensive tackles with consistent pressure, filling an immediate need for New Orleans.

The Saints’ receiving corps was one of the NFL’s least productive, with no wideout surpassing 32 receptions. Outside of Chris Olave, they lack a reliable second option. Emeka Egbuka, a polished route runner and after-the-catch threat, could provide an instant upgrade. His ability to complement Olave makes him a strong fit for the Saints’ offense.

After trading four-time Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders, New Orleans finds itself searching for a replacement. Darien Porter is an athletic, physical cornerback who allowed only 5 receptions in his final season at Iowa State. His combination of size, speed, and coverage skills makes him a promising option to help fortify the secondary.

The Saints’ offensive line struggled mightily in pass protection, ranking dead last in the NFL in that category according to Pro Football Focus. Replacing Trevor Penning, who allowed 54 pressures, is a top priority. Anthony Belton from NC State is a powerful tackle with excellent pass-blocking skills, earning a stellar 87.9 grade from PFF. He could immediately step in and solidify New Orleans’ line.

After adding Darien Porter earlier in the draft, the Saints strengthen their secondary further by selecting Denzel Burke from Ohio State. Although Burke had a down year in 2024, his 2023 season was outstanding, earning him All-American honors. In that year, he showcased elite skills in man coverage, allowing just 19.1% of targets to be caught. His ability to shut down receivers and his previous high-level performances make him a solid value pick for New Orleans in the fourth round.

The Saints’ run defense was a liability, allowing 141 rushing yards per game. Nazir Stackhouse, a massive defensive tackle from Georgia, could help shore up this weakness. His ability to clog up the middle and eat up blocks will aid in stopping the run and adding depth to New Orleans' defensive line.

The Saints continue to bolster their offensive line with Marcus Wehr, a sleeper prospect out of Montana State. Known for his strength and versatility, Wehr recently earned recognition as NFL Draft Notebook's Sleeper of the Week. His raw talent and potential could make him a steal for New Orleans in the later rounds.

With their final pick, the Saints add depth to their defensive line by selecting Tyler Batty from BYU. At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, Batty is a powerful edge rusher with a quick first step. His ability to overpower blockers with his strength and explosiveness makes him an intriguing late-round prospect.
