New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will have to wait some time to make his mark on the NFL, but once he returns there is still one bold prediction that will excite Who Dat Nation.
Following a strong training camp, the Saints' top rookie is expected to miss the next two months with a right hamstring injury according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on Monday. The injury occrued during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday and has already put the injury-prone label on the former Arizona State star who had some issues with his hamstring while at the school.
Despite the injury limiting some of his on-field production in 2025, Tyson still emerged as one of the best wide receiver prospects entering the 2026 NFL Draft. As an athletic playmaker with elite route running finesse, the idea of a Tyson and Chris Olave duo was heating up in the Big Easy prior to the injury. When healthy, Tyson looked every bit like the impact receiver the Saints believed they drafted.
Jordyn Tyson still has game-changing potential
“Jordyn’s had a great camp. He’s played really good football. Inevitably, this is the unfortunate part of what preseason and training camp football is,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore said, via ESPN. “We’ve already had a few of these guys, that you just have something that comes up and…we’ll just work through it.”
The Saints coach went on to express his confidence that the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft will “get through this, and he’ll be good to go,” which he will. When he is ready, Tyson will make his mark in the NFL as a rookie before it is all said and done. Unfortunately, the injury and amount of time he is expected to miss to start the season may take him out of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year race, but he was showing in training camp to be that type of impact rookie.
With Tyler Shough entering his second season in the NFL and first full season as a starter, that tandem of Olave and Tyson was going to be one to watch early in the 2026 season. Although that excitement is now delayed, the Olave-Tyson duo should still become one of the NFL's more intriguing young receiving tandems once Tyson returns. With his ability to align as either a boundary X-receiver or a move Z-receiver, Tyson’s route running and ability to get up and nab contested passes will make him a playmaking machine when healthy. That leads to this bold prediction.
Jordyn Tyson can still deliver a signature rookie moment
Prior to the injury, this prediction would’ve been based on his overall production as a rookie, but with him expected to miss the first two months of the season, there will be individual games in which Tyson will still make his rookie season a memorable one. How bold is NFL Mocks going to get in this prediction?
Once Tyson gets a few games under his belt, he'll erupt with a three-touchdown performance that reminds everyone why the Saints drafted him in the top 10. His versatility to line up across the formation will allow Shough to find him in multiple ways, whether it's a contested catch in the red zone, a deep shot downfield or a route that creates separation underneath.
In all, regardless of when Tyson makes his NFL debut, he'll still eclipse 500 receiving yards and become the first Saints rookie to catch three touchdown passes in a single regular-season game. Could he still challenge Michael Thomas' franchise rookie record of nine receiving touchdowns set in 2016? That will ultimately depend on whether he can stay healthy once he returns.
