The New York Jets have something special brewing on the offensive side of the ball and one of their three 2026 NFL Draft first-round picks is excited to be a part of it.
Selected with the No. 16 overall pick in the draft, former Oregon star Kenyon Sadiq was the top tight end in the draft due to his athleticism, size and extreme ability to create yards after the catch. In bringing that value to the Jets’ offense, Sadiq projects to be a big part of new offensive coordinator Frank Reich’s scheme, which heavily utilizes tight ends.
This has the first-round pick excited and believing in the possibilities ahead for him and the new offensive approach of the Jets in the upcoming season.
Why Kenyon Sadiq believes the Jets can “do whatever they want”
In pairing Sadiq with second-year tight end Mason Taylor, the Jets have two young tight ends who are not only big targets, but a duo of offensive weapons who will be vital to what the Jets do offensively in 2026, and Sadiq is excited about what lays ahead for his new team.
“[Mason Taylor] does a lot of things really well, whether it’s the run game or the pass game,” Sadiq said during New York's rookie minicamp, via the team’s official website. “But I think the possibilities are endless. And even with Jeremy [Ruckert] in there, really, they can do whatever they want. And I think it’s pretty unique and pretty cool, and it kind of just opens it for everyone.”
Along with fellow first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr, who was selected with the No. 30 overall pick in the draft, Sadiq brings an explosive element to a Jets offense starving for high-production playmakers beyond wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Although the QB position is still a wild card with Geno Smith expected to be the starter for the 2026 NFL season, the Jets have a lot to like on the offensive side of the ball.
It starts with Hall and Wilson, but the biggest spotlight of New York’s offense will be how Reich uses the tight end duo of Taylor and Sadiq, especially Sadiq who has shown an ability to be an instant mismatch wherever he lines up on the field and a highlight waiting to happen.
In his final season with the Oregon Ducks, Sadiq hauled in 51 catches for 560 yards and eight touchdowns while catching the ball from 2027 NFL Draft QB prospect Dante Moore. If that wasn’t enough to solidify his status as the nation’s top tight end, he displayed an exhilarating performance at the NFL Scouting Combine by posting a 4.39 second 40-yard dash, which shattered the all-time tight end 40-yard dash record.
With that top-end speed, athleticism and playmaking skills, Sadiq projects as a real X-factor for the Jets’ offense. As he continues to learn Reich’s offense, the focus will be on just how much excitement Sadiq can bring to the NFL in Year 1. The talent is there, but will the explosive impact he can bring be utilized in a way that makes him a weapon to watch in 2026?
