After making his NFL debut in Week 6 against the Houston Texans, can New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye pass for 200-plus yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London?

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Maye had his ups and downs against the Texans.  He started the game slow by throwing an interception but bounced back in the 41-21 loss to throw for 243 yards and 3 touchdowns.  In all, it was a performance that garnered some excitement in New England given what the rookie QB had to deal with going up against a tough Texans’ defense.

Will he learn from his mistakes and be even better in his second start in the NFL?

If he gets more protection and is more comfortable and plays with confidence, the Patriots’ offense could be a problem for the Jaguars.

What Drake Maye said in Week 7

Speaking of confidence, Maye’s confidence in the offense is giving the players around him more confidence.  Where did that confidence come from?

“My confidence comes from, I think, just moving the football. Moving the football and just finding completions,” Maye said via the team’s official website. “I think any quarterback, you kind of get more confident getting first downs, finding completions, making a good throw or making the right throw. That's the biggest thing, making the right throw. At the same time, you get confidence from others. It's just like, anybody wants to get pumped up, and I try to remind myself on the sideline to kind of be the voice that pumps some guys up. Other than that, just try to kind of build my role as a leadership role each and every week as I try to earn the guys' respect.”

Drake Maye’s passing yards prop odds vs. Jaguars

Drake Maye’s odds to pass for 200+ yards in the Week 7 matchup: -125 (Bet $10 to win $18.00).

Key factors:

  • Maye passed for over 200 yards against a much more talented Texans defense in his debut.  He did so despite throwing two interceptions and getting sacked 4 times in that game.
  • Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to play vs Jaguars.  Maye was able to get the ball down the field with a non-existent running game.  With Stevenson back, that should take pressure off Maye and set up more play-action throws that will play to Maye’s strength.
  • Maye has formed chemistry with Demario “Pop” Douglas.  The two connected six times for 92 yards and a touchdown vs. Texans.  If Maye can get Kendrick Bourne, Ja’Lynn Polk and the two tight ends (Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper) involved it should be a big passing day for Maye.
  • The Jaguars are last in the league in passing yards against at 276.7 yards per game.
