Will a slimmer, quicker, and healthier Cam Ward be able to elevate the Tennessee Titans offense in Year 2?
That will be the main challenge for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With a new head coach in Robert Saleh and a new offensive coordinator in Brian Daboll, the second-year quarterback, who is coming off an okay rookie season, has a lot to prove as he enters the Year 2 phase of his NFL career.
As his team transform to new coaching leadership and a new offensive scheme, the Titans young quarterback has gone through his own transformation.
Ward says his offseason weight loss has made him more energetic and faster, which he believes will make him a better athlete.
"I'm trying to get a little bit leaner, and then just trying to stay durable for a long season," said Ward, via the team's official site. "It's really watching the calorie limit, watching the amount of protein and the amount of carbs I need to put in, and what is best for my body and how I feel.
"I just think (the weight loss) will help me with durability, being faster, getting up in the pocket, and then just trying to play at my speed and not no one else's speed."
Cam Ward believes his offseason transformation will help Titans offense
One of the issues Ward faced during his rookie season was taking too many sacks.
While much of that fell on the offensive line, Ward struggled with processing speed and holding on to the ball too long at times, leading to more sacks and turnovers. Despite the struggles, he did impress at times with his deep ball accuracy and ability to go off-script at times and make plays.
While that is a strength of Ward, it was also his disaster at times. That is where his durability and getting up and around in the pocket faster should help him grow as a passer at the NFL level.
Brian Daboll’s offense will test Cam Ward
In bringing in Daboll, who has a track record of fixing quarterback issues, the Titans are changing the offensive approach, an approach that should help Ward be a more effective quarterback. This leads to his biggest challenge going into Year 2.

Can Ward be patient enough to trust Daboll’s scheme, which is a rhythm-based passing attack that will get the ball out of his hands quickly. Along with being healthy and feeling faster, Ward will need to lean on his own discipline. He will have to trust what he sees, get the ball out quicker, and pick his spots to get the ball down field to the likes of No. 4 overall draft pick Carnell Tate and veteran receiver Calvin Ridley, who will be fully healthy to start the 2026 NFL season.
Titans are giving Cam Ward more weapons entering Year 2
In addition to developing chemistry with fellow 2025 rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike, Ward now has a new slot receiver, Wan’Dale Robinson, who is already familiar with Daboll’s system from their previous tenure together with the New York Giants. Robinson is expected to play a pivotal role in the quick-timing concepts that Daboll is implementing.
In conclusion, we know the physical talent is there with Ward, who is feeling leaner and quicker. We've already seen Ward's arm talent flash during an up-and-down rookie season. Now, Ward must process the field quicker, get the ball to his playmakers and understand and trust his new offensive scheme. If he meets that challenge, the Titans could be a very interesting team in the AFC South.
