Bo Nix may have something to say about Jayden Daniels winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year when all is said and done.
After taking home his second consecutive NFL Rookie of the Week award after his Week 11 performance in a Denver Broncos win over the Atlanta Falcons, Nix has the NFL singing his praises. Whether it is his own coach or former NFL quarterbacks, Nix is turning heads as the NFL season hits the stretch run.
While Daniels has been impressive from the start in leading the Washington Commanders to a 7-4 record, Nix has been settling into a rhythm with the Broncos that is now seeing the rookie quarterback take off to new heights. In fact, according to Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and former Broncos quarterback legend John Elway, “sky’s the limit” for Nix.
“Bo’s got all the tools,” Elway said during an appearance this week on “The Adam Schefter Podcast,” “and I think in today’s game, as you know, even though you can get by without the movement, it sure is an added bonus to be able to move around, extend plays like Bo’s been able to do. I think the sky’s the limit for him, and I think he’s just going to continue to get better and better the more comfortable he gets.”
In all, Nix has won ugly and now he is winning pretty with his latest head turning performance coming against the Falcons. Nix was impressive throwing the ball for 307 yards with 4 touchdowns and a rating of 145.0. With the Broncos at 6-5, Nix has an opportunity to get the team back to the playoffs. If he does and continues to trend upward, he may surpass Daniels as a front runner for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year accolades.
Could Michael Penix Jr enter the QB rookie storyline in 2024?
With Nix doing his thing in Denver, Daniels helping the Commanders rise and Drake Maye looking like the real deal in Foxborough, could the fourth quarterback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft take his turn as a rookie making a splash this season.
In that Falcons’ 38-6 loss to Nix and the Broncos, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins was benched in favor of the No. 8 overall pick in the draft, Michael Penix Jr. In what was a head-scratching selection by the Falcons in the draft, may just turn out to be a pick that helps save the Falcons season.
At 6-5, the sky is not falling in Atlanta, but the team’s offensive struggles are hard to ignore, mostly the turnovers.
Although it would be a bold move for the Falcons to make such a switch with the team in the playoff hunt, going with a more mobile QB in Penix Jr could be something that sparks the offense and perhaps the Falcons selecting a QB in the top 10 over a defensive player at that spot will make more sense. It probably won’t happen unless Cousins suffers an injury, but something to watch with the Falcons if they lose a couple of more games in an ugly way.
