The New England Patriots vs Las Vegas Raiders matchup features two of the most dynamic rookie running backs from the 2025 NFL Draft.  All eyes will be on the No. 6 overall pick in the draft Ashton Jeanty but watch out for TreVeyon Henderson.

Selected in the second round of the draft, the Ohio State product brings explosiveness to the Patriots’ offense in both the run game and in the passing game.  With Josh McDaniels back as offensive coordinator, there will be more utilization of the running back in the passing game which makes the Patriots selection of Henderson a great fit.

In the preseason, Henderson showed off his ability to impact the game with a 100-yard kickoff return the first time he touched the ball in the NFL.  He also showcased power in his running attack with the ability to catch the ball.  There wasn’t much Drake Maye to Henderson in actual games, but in training camp, it looks like the quarterback and running back have already formed chemistry.

Will Henderson be a main contributor in Mike Vrabel’s debut as Patriots head coach?

TreVeyon Henderson receiving yards 50+ odds vs. Raiders

TreVeyon Henderson over 50 receiving yards in Week 1 matchup: +610 (Bet $10 to win $71.00).

Key factors:

  • The main factor is Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and his history with getting pass catching running backs involved in the offense.  Henderson is prime for McDaniels, and he’ll use him as a multi-threat weapon against his former team.
  • Henderson’s ability to pass block may keep him on the field more, especially with the threat of Maxx Crosby rushing from the edge.  Again, in McDaniels’ offense this could lead to more screen passes or quick dump offs from Maye to Henderson.
  • During his last season at Ohio State, Henderson had 27 receptions for 284 yards and a touchdown.  He averaged 10.5 yards per catch.  With his speed and explosiveness, he’ll turn a couple of short passes into long gains of over 10+ yards.
  • The Raiders defensive backfield is unproven, so expect McDaniels to dial up plays to attack the secondary.  That could involve Henderson lining up as a receiver a few times in this game.

Prediction: The Patriots will turn to a quick passing game to offset the pass rush of Crosby.  If the offensive line holds up and give Maye more time to throw, the Patriots should win this game.  Henderson will rush the ball, but he’ll be more impactful in the passing game due to his ability to make players miss in open space. A successful debut for head coach Mike Vrabel and an impactful one for Henderson as he goes for close to 100 yards combined yards rushing and catching the ball.
