With NFL training camps getting underway around the league, things are about to get real for rookies as well as veterans who are looking to make an impact on the 53-man roster. When it comes to the quarterback position, there are some 2025 NFL Draft picks who will be looking to steal headlines and create buzz heading into the 2025 NFL season.
Rookie quarterbacks could steal the headlines in 2025
In draft that didn’t really move the chains as well as franchise quarterback caliber talent, the one player who stands out in the QB class is Tennessee Titans No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward who is expected to change the tune in the Music City. With a big, talented arm and an ability to emphasize in the pocket, Ward is a sure bet as the top rookie QB throughout the season.
But (and there is always a but when it comes to rookie talent), there are some other first-year quarterbacks who do offer some intrigue for their teams. Which rookie quarterbacks are in position to steal headlines in NFL training camp and perhaps beyond?
Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
As the third quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough finds himself in position to be the starter for the Saints after the sudden retirement of Derek Carr.

While him winning the starting job as the team’s second-round pick wouldn’t steal headlines, it’s how Shough showcases his talent and the command of the offense that will make his guaranteed rookie contract worth it. If not for injuries suffered during his collegiate career, Shough may have been a higher draft pick. It is also due to those injury concerns that some draft pundits believe taken him at No. 40 was a bit high.
Entering a training camp battle with second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler and veteran Jake Haener, Shough will not only be out to prove he’s the Saints starting quarterback but also prove to the rest of the NFL that Cam Ward won’t be the only rookie gunslinger making noise in 2025.
