With the NFL trade deadline approaching, teams across the league are facing some major decisions that could shape their approach to the 2027 NFL Draft. For teams struggling through the first half of the 2026 season, the focus is already shifting toward their biggest roster needs and how they can address them in the first round.
In this week's 2027 NFL Mock Draft, the New York Jets have a golden opportunity to reshape their franchise with three top-10 picks. But they aren't the only team looking to change their future. With quarterback-needy teams making some bold decisions and seven signal-callers coming off the board in Round 1, a few familiar names could find themselves in unexpected places.
2027 NFL Mock Draft: Chargers make their choice as quarterbacks fly off the board
No. 1 Los Angeles Chargers: Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State

All the Justin Herbert trade rumblings end with the Chargers sticking with their franchise quarterback and landing him the best offensive player in the 2027 NFL Draft. Heck, Jeremiah Smith may just be the best player in the entire draft. A Herbert-to-Smith connection could be the ultimate silver lining in an otherwise nightmare season.
No. 2 Tennessee Titans: Colin Simmons, EDGE, Texas
The best offensive player and best defensive player come off the board with the first two picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. With a rare blend of athleticism, size, speed and pass-rushing instincts, Colin Simmons is a no-brainer at No. 2 for a Tennessee Titans team starting to show some life and a clearer path forward as a franchise.
No. 3 Miami Dolphins: Darian Mensah, QB, Miami (FL)
The first two picks leave the Miami Dolphins with a franchise-altering decision to make at No. 3. Malik Willis has shown great leadership, but what he hasn't shown is a reason for the Dolphins not to take a quarterback at this spot. They keep Darian Mensah in South Beach and stir up the fanbase by selecting him over Drew Mestemaker. I think by season's end, Mensah will prove to be the more NFL-ready quarterback and could give a struggling Dolphins offense the motivation to change its offensive philosophy. As a pure pocket passer, Mensah excels in the quick-rhythm passing game.
No. 4 New York Jets via Indianapolis: Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
Drew Mestemaker lands in the AFC East as the Jets waste no time selecting him with the No. 4 overall pick. With Josh Allen and Drake Maye dominating the division at the quarterback position, the Jets get their own prototypical quarterback with a big arm and dual-threat ability. With all the other elements in place offensively, the Oklahoma State star could be the final piece of the puzzle.
No. 5 Philadelphia Eagles: CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame
The Eagles suddenly have an uncertain situation at the quarterback position due to Jalen Hurts' current medical condition. Taking CJ Carr or any top quarterback at this spot is a realistic option for an Eagles team with the talent and resources to bounce back quickly. As possibly the most polished quarterback in the class, Carr presents the Eagles with an intriguing insurance policy if Hurts' future remains in doubt medically.
No. 6 New York Jets: Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame

The Jets win the draft with this pick. After being gifted by their AFC East foe with Mestemaker at No. 4, the Jets get even more fortunate with Leonard Moore falling into their lap at No. 6. The consensus top cornerback and perhaps top defensive player in the draft, Moore will have an opportunity to really revitalize the Jets' secondary.
No. 7 Houston Texans: Jordan Seaton, OT, LSU
The Texans may still turn things around as the season moves forward, but a big need in the 2027 NFL Draft will still be upgrading the offensive line. With the selection of Jordan Seaton, they get a player who can replace Trent Brown at right tackle and give the team another young anchor to protect C.J. Stroud in the future.
No. 8 New Orleans Saints: Dylan Stewart, EDGE, South Carolina
Dylan Stewart slides, but not too far. The Saints nab him at No. 8 as Cam Jordan's successor. After an inauspicious start to the season at South Carolina, the highly touted edge rusher has regained his steam and is showing why he's a top-10 pick and a potential game-changer for any defense that selects him. In this mock draft, it's the Saints.
No. 9 Washington Commanders: Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana
The Commanders had a great need at wide receiver before Terry McLaurin went down with a season-ending injury. That need is greater now because even when McLaurin returns healthy in 2027, he will be on the other side of 30. Charlie Becker, who has emerged as the second-best wide receiver in the draft, has the size, speed and yards-after-the-catch ability to be the top target in Washington in Year 1.
