The 2027 NFL Draft is shaping up to be one of the more unpredictable drafts in recent memory, especially at the quarterback position. With teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns facing franchise-altering decisions, the top 10 could get interesting in a hurry.

In this latest first-round mock draft, one quarterback-needy team makes an aggressive move up the board in a blockbuster trade that could shake up the entire first round.

But the real intrigue may be where some of the biggest names in college football land. While a few rising quarterback prospects continue to strengthen their case as top-10 selections, one of the most highly touted quarterbacks entering the season takes a surprising tumble down the draft board.

Just how far does he fall, and which NFL franchise could be in position to capitalize?

No. 1 Los Angeles Chargers: Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State

With the Chargers currently holding onto the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, the rumors and rumblings surrounding Justin Herbert’s future with the Chargers will only intensify.

Should the Chargers move on from their star quarterback or continue to build around him?

Holding onto Herbert and landing him a weapon like Jeremiah Smith could end up being the best direction for the franchise. The Ohio State wideout is a game changer and the type of playmaker who could inject a new level of confidence in Herbert and spark some rejuvenation in a franchise that is suddenly filled with big questions.

No. 2 Miami Dolphins: Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State

Before the season started, Drew Mestemaker being the first quarterback off the board wasn’t in the cards, at least for most NFL Draft enthusiasts.

Talent-wise, Mestemaker has the ingredients of a franchise quarterback at the next level. He has the arm talent, the prototypical size and the dual-threat ability to excite a fanbase. Most of all, he has the toughness.

In selecting Mestemaker with the No. 2 overall pick, the Dolphins will send a message to Malik Willis that he isn’t a long-term starter, but the most important message is to the fans by being aggressive in the draft at the QB position.

No. 3 Cleveland Browns (via trade with Titans): Darian Mensah, QB, Miami

The Browns send a haul of picks, including No. 11 and No. 26 overall, to the Titans to move up to No. 3 and select Miami Hurricanes star QB Darian Mensah.

It's an aggressive move for Cleveland, but with the offensive talent accumulated over the last two drafts, finding a franchise quarterback is a top priority.

Is Mensah that guy?

Through the first seven weeks of the college football season, Mensah has been one of the hottest quarterbacks in the nation and a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. His ability to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers makes him an intriguing fit for a Browns offense loaded with young talent.

No. 4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame

The Buccaneers are a team that can go in a few different directions with the No. 4 overall pick. They could easily trade back here, but we have them taking the top cornerback off the board in Leonard Moore.

While the Buccaneers have talent in the secondary in Zyon McCollum, Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish, they don’t have a real shutdown corner who can complement the exotic blitz packages Todd Bowles is known for.

At 6-foot-2, 197 pounds, Moore has the type of length and press-man energy to be just the guy Bowles needs to optimize that pressure-heavy scheme.

No. 5 Washington Commanders: Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana

Speed, size, contested-catch energy and the clutch factor, Becker is an ideal receiver to add to the mix and a playmaker Jayden Daniels will love on the outside.

Unless the Commanders tank the rest of the season and aim more toward selecting Smith or somehow the top receiver falls to No. 5, Becker is the next best option for the Commanders’ offense.

No. 6 New York Jets (via Cowboys): CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame

The Jets have the draft capital to move up in the draft but stand pat once Mestemaker goes to the Dolphins at No. 2. After him, there are a handful of QBs with top-10 talent and the Jets get one of them in Notre Dame’s CJ Carr.

Despite a loss to BYU where he struggled a bit against an aggressive defense, Carr has been one of the more consistent quarterback prospects through the first half of the season.

His precision, poise and decision-making make him a great fit for the Jets' offense given the talent they have on that side of the ball as far as playmakers.

No. 7 Houston Texans: Colin Simmons, EDGE, Texas

The Texans are now winners of their last two games and are looking like a team ready to make a run, especially with C.J. Stroud playing at a high level at the QB position and Will Anderson doing his thing on the defensive side of the ball.

Adding Texas star Colin Simmons to the mix would give Houston another explosive pass rusher who can create havoc off the edge. With Anderson already commanding attention, Simmons would give opposing offensive lines another nightmare to deal with and make an already dangerous Texans defense even more intimidating.

No. 8 Philadelphia Eagles: Trevor Goosby, OT, Texas

Currently with a top-10 pick, the Philadelphia Eagles will have their choice of elite offensive tackles.

Do they go with Trevor Goosby or Jordan Seaton?

With Jordan Mailata at left tackle, Goosby is the better fit for the Eagles at right tackle given his massive size and run-blocking ability.

The Eagles are a rush-heavy team and that is where Goosby excels. They get their Lane Johnson successor with this stud out of Texas.
