  • Cleveland Browns
  • New York Jets
  • Arizona Cardinals

The irony of keeping these three teams in this tier is that their offenses haven't been total disasters this season.

The Cardinals, Jets, and Browns rank 12th, 19th, and 25th in offensive DVOA, respectively, through the first four weeks of the season.

But the situations each franchise finds themselves in still say they need to draft a quarterback in 2027.

New York and Cleveland have amassed multiple first-round picks in next year's draft as ammo to move around the board for a quarterback. Both teams are also employing starting quarterbacks in their 30s who are free agents after this season.

It would be best for both teams to take the proof of concept from their new offensive coaches and apply it to a rookie quarterback next year.

Arizona, meanwhile, has just the one first-round pick and the best offense of the bunch, but the franchise is clearly in position to find their new franchise quarterback.

With their own veteran quarterback on an expiring contract in his 30s, Arizona took Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. And while he had his moment in the preseason, Arizona shouldn't turn down a chance at a quarterback in the top five of the draft because of him.

These three teams remain the clearest candidates to select a quarterback early, but the bigger story might be the franchises suddenly joining the conversation.
