Who should the Miami Dolphins target in the 2025 NFL Draft?
That will be a fascinating question entering the offseason if you are a Dolphins fan. A more interesting question for the Dolphins front office who may have to decide what to do with Tyreek Hill, who requested a trade at the end of the season.
While there are other needs like securing the offensive line and adding a top backup quarterback for Tua Tagovailoa, there will be temptation to add another offensive playmaker in the first round. With the type of season tight end Jonnu Smith had in the Dolphins offense in 2024, could the Dolphins add another playmaking tight end to the offense in case Hill forces his way out of South Beach?
There are a couple of tight ends projected to go in the first round who could help the Dolphins transform their approach on offense and give Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel another piece to work with on offense.
2025 NFL Mock Draft: CBS Sports has Dolphins selecting Penn State star
The Dolphins did well with the selection of Penn State EDGE Chop Robinson in the 2024 NFL Draft. Could the Dolphins dip into the Penn State talent pool and select Tyler Warren at the tight end position in 2025?
In his latest NFL Mock Draft, Josh Edwards sees Warren as a major piece to the Dolphins revamping their roster in the offseason.
Edwards writes:
“Leadership seems to believe they have mended a relationship with Tyreek Hill that appeared strained in the season finale. The offseason has only just begun, and one would imagine that there will be more twists and turns in the road. Tyler Warren is a versatile offensive talent who Mike McDaniel should be able to maximize.”
More on Tyler Warren at NFL Mocks:
Given the success of Smith and Mike Gesicki in seasons prior, a player like Warren could be in for the type of monster rookie season Brock Bowers had with the Raiders. The Penn State star is not entering the league as highly touted as Bowers, but like the former Georgia star, he is a John Mackey-award winner who has shown he can do everything and be everything on offense. In 2024, Warren was stellar with 98 receptions and 1158 yards receiving in a season in which he showcased elite athleticism with his 6-foot-6, 261-pound frame.
Whether or not the Dolphins keep Hill, Warren on the field with Jayden Waddle and Smith as the other tight end give McDaniel a different approach on offense as the Dolphins would be able to go big in the run game, but also play to Tua’s strengths in getting the ball out quick to playmakers who can create yards after the catch. Warren also fits that mode.
NFL Mocks has Dolphins selecting a tackle with pick No. 13
Perhaps it will be a matter of needs vs wants at this spot for the Dolphins, but NFL Mocks has the Dolphins taking a tackle at No. 13. In selecting Ohio State’s Josh Simmons, the Dolphins take care of their most pressing need…protect Tua!
As far as wants, NFL Mocks don’t disagree with the selection of Warren here. He would add a dynamic element to the offense and the draft is deep enough at tackle where the Dolphins can fill that need later in the draft or even via free agency. Either way, Miami will be improving their team around Tua which will be the smart approach.
