2025 NFL Mock Draft roundup: Travis Hunter could be everything for the Jaguars (and much more)
One of the most intriguing NFL draft prospects entering the 2025 NFL Draft is Colorado’s Travis Hunter.
A two-way star at the college level, Hunter is not only one of the frontrunners to win the Heisman Trophy, but he is also becoming the poise of the award. An elite cornerback who can be just as explosive of a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball, Hunter will and should be the No. 1 player taken in the draft for a team not in need of a quarterback.
One of those teams currently holds the top pick and is a team that happens to need a top cornerback and a team that is need of a shift in direction.
CBS NFL Mock Draft: Jaguars select Travis Hunter with the No. 1 overall pick
Currently at 2-9, the Jacksonville Jaguars are a team with talent that should be producing more wins. Whether it is coaching or inconsistent play, the Jaguars are a team in need for more than a shift in direction, they need a superstar not named Trevor Lawrence who could impact both sides of the ball. Hunter is that man.
In his latest CBS mock draft, Josh Edwards sees a Jaguars team that will have their options with the No. 1 overall pick and the top option should be the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
Edwards writes:
“Jacksonville would certainly be willing to listen to trade offers if there were a quarterback worthy of that consideration. There are no trade projections in this mock draft, so it stands pat and takes the most versatile player in college football.”
There will be an option of trading back to stack up more draft capital for the Jaguars. Depending on the team, they could do that and still be in position to select Hunter who would instantly become of the face of the organization. Yes, that should be the franchise quarterback, but Lawrence hasn’t given the team that identity they are in search of.
In fact, the last time the team had such a player was when Jalen Ramsey was the face of Duval County. He gave the team an identity by doing his talking on and off the field. Is Hunter a similar player?
As a player who stands behind his play on the field with confidence, Hunter could be an elite corner who can strengthen the Jaguars’ secondary and give Lawrence another target on the offensive side of the ball. Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. would be a lethal duo offensively for the Jags.
Jaguars will have other options at cornerback
If not Travis Hunter, then who?
In a deep draft at cornerback, Jacksonville could find an elite corner later in the top 10 or just outside the top 10. Michigan’s Will Johnson is a cornerback with shutdown ability who would be an instant upgrade in the secondary. Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison is also a big-time cornerback the Jags would love to have. In all, it must be Hunter for Jacksonville because of the star power and identity he would inject in that Jaguars team.
Yes, a lot of pressure to put on a rookie, but for a team that may be a player away from making things interesting again in Duval County, the face and talent of Travis Hunter shines best.
