The 2025 NFL Draft class will be deep at the wide receiver position.  Like 2024, teams in need of a wide receiver or receiver depth should have their selection of good playmakers who can step in and contribute immediately.

One team that may draft for luxury rather than need at the position are the Philadelphia Eagles.  After double dipping in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with their first two picks, the Eagles took care of a huge need.  In 2025, could they turn their attention to getting more explosive on offense?

With A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith already in place, the Eagles could find themselves in position to add to that duo as the team doesn’t have many needs at this point in the season.

CBS NFL Mock Draft: Eagles land Missouri star at No. 15

Imagine Luther Burden III in that Eagles’ offense along with Brown, Smith, and tight end Dallas Goedert?  In the latest CBS.com NFL Mock Draft, the Eagles select the Missouri star with the No. 15 overall pick in the draft.  Of course, that draft position could and should end up being much lower, but with the current needs of other NFL teams, a talent like Burden III could fall to a playoff contender like the Eagles.

And if he does, watch out!

In his latest mock draft, Ryan Wilson writes:

“Burden reminds me a lot of Golden Tate in terms of his toughness and yards-after-the-catch ability. He played primarily out of the slot last season and offers something in the return game. Yes, Philly has A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, but we've seen how disjointed the passing offense becomes when they're injured.”

Wilson makes a good point in supporting his reason why the Eagles should go with receiver.  As good and dominant as Brown and Smith can be, injuries do tend to get in a way.  In adding another speedster with toughness, the Eagles would gain a receiver who can step in and step up in place of either of their top receivers.  At the same time, he will add his own element to the receiving core.  Although 5-11, Burden III plays much bigger due to this 208-pound frame.  His yards after the catch and ability as a special teams return man makes him a very intriguing option for the Eagles.

Other needs for the Philadelphia Eagles

Again, not many needs for the Eagles on paper, but an Edge rusher or linebacker could be areas of need.  Given the depth in the 2025 NFL Draft, they could find fits on Day 2 or Day 3.  But, if they are selecting in the late teens or early-to-late 20s, possible fits are Penn State’s Abdul Carter, Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton or Georgia’s Mykel Williams at the Edge.

The top linebacker in the draft who could be a Day 2 selection is LSU’s Harold Perkins Jr, who could also masquerade as a pass rusher.  In all, if you are an Eagles fan, this could be a draft where the team takes an opportunity to get richer in talent.
