Since 2008, no FCS program has been more dominant than North Dakota State. The Bison have captured an astounding 10 national championships, including their latest 35-32 win over Montana State. Their postseason record is equally impressive, boasting a 51-5 mark, with four of those losses coming against eventual national champions.
Beyond their success on the field, North Dakota State has established itself as a pipeline for NFL talent. This season, 12 former Bison made initial 53-man rosters in the NFL. One of the most notable recent alumni is Christian Watson, who has emerged as the Green Bay Packers’ top deep-threat receiver.
Looking ahead, two North Dakota State players stand out as strong NFL prospects for the upcoming draft: offensive lineman Grey Zabel and quarterback Cam Miller.
Grey Zabel could be a first-round pick
Zabel, the higher-rated of the two, has been a dominant force in the trenches. This past season, he surrendered just one sack and earned a stellar 90.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. His exceptional play earned him All-MVFC First Team honors, solidifying his status as one of the top offensive linemen in the nation’s most competitive FCS conference. Versatility is one of Zabel’s greatest strengths, as he has played every position along the Bison offensive line. His athleticism and explosiveness make him an ideal fit for teams that prioritize mobile offensive linemen. With these attributes, Zabel is projected as a potential top-50 pick, with Bleacher Report predicting he could go as high as 13th overall.

Meanwhile, Cam Miller is another name to watch. The reigning MVFC Offensive Player of the Year put up outstanding numbers, throwing for 3,251 yards and 33 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He also added 12 rushing touchdowns, proving himself as a true dual-threat quarterback. Miller's accuracy, especially when he has a clean pocket, makes him an intriguing prospect, and his ability to throw from multiple platforms while using his legs when needed adds to his appeal. He is currently of the highest-graded small-school quarterbacks on my draft board and could be a Day 3 selection.
With a rich history of success and a proven track record of developing NFL talent, North Dakota State continues to set the standard in FCS football. As Zabel and Miller prepare for the next level, they carry on the Bison legacy—one built on dominance, discipline, and a commitment to excellence.
