In the world of college football, one name has recently set the field on fire: Travis Hunter, a Heisman contender and a prospect already hyping up the 2025 NFL Draft class.

The two-way phenom from Colorado has become a sensation following a stellar performance in the team’s victory over TCU during the 2023 season’s opening week.

Travis Hunter’s has an impressive debut in his first game with Colorado

In his debut game since his transfer from Jackson State, Hunter, a top recruit of head coach Deion Sanders, did not disappoint. Hunter displayed his prowess both as a wide receiver and a cornerback and scored 11 receptions for 119 yards on offense. On the defensive end, he recorded one interception, three tackles, and one pass defensed, contributing significantly to the team’s triumph.

Hunter, alongside teammate Shedeur Sanders (Deion’s son), has his sights set on their first home game in Boulder against Matt Rhule’s Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday at Folsom Field. The Buffaloes are favorites with a -1.5-point edge.

2025 NFL Draft: NFL enthusiasts are eyeing Travis Hunter

While NFL aficionados anticipate Week 1, those who tuned in to the Colorado vs. TCU game were treated to a glimpse of Hunter’s potential as a top-10 draft pick for 2025.

Despite the scorching heat in Fort Worth, Hunter, playing 110 total plays, torched the national title game runner-up with his offensive and defensive skills. He delivered his breakout performance under the watchful eyes of another past two-way dynamo and current coach, Deion Sanders, earning Sanders his first win as Colorado’s head coach.

Hunter’s performance didn’t go unnoticed. Among those impressed was former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.

As for NFL scouts watching Colorado games, they’ll have to wait – Hunter is not eligible to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

Hunter, a true sophomore, will have to complete one more collegiate season to meet the league rule of finishing three seasons at the college level. Yet, ESPN NFL insider Field Yates has already released his short list of top-five picks for the 2025 NFL Draft, with Hunter leading the pack. Hunter is the Shohei Ohtani of college football.

Hunter communicates with his fans through his weekly TikTok segment, “12 Talks” (named after his jersey number, 12). During one of these sessions, he was asked about his preferred team when he eventually enters the NFL Draft.

"“My favorite NFL team is the (San Francisco) 49ers,” Hunter told his audience. “But if I had to say, I like staying in Colorado.”"

Hunter’s personal preferences might not matter much when 2025 rolls around, as that’s when he’ll possibly enter the NFL Draft after his junior season – the earliest college players can go pro.
Hunter also revealed that fans often predict he’ll end up with the Green Bay Packers.

"“Everybody that I’ve talked to say I’mma go to Green Bay,” Hunter continued on his TikTok chat. “I don’t know why. But Green Bay is cold. I don’t have a problem with it. But why?”"
