Travis Kelce takes out Taylor Swift rejection on teammates at Chiefs training camp
By Hunter Haas
The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions with a chance at repeating in 2023. So why is Travis Kelce so mad? Could it be because Taylor Swift rejected his advances? Probably not. But it is funny to think about. It’s even funnier when you hear the names of the people Kelce threw hands at.
Taylor Swift famously rejected Travis Kelce at a recent concert
Jack Cochrane and Dicaprio Bootle are both competing for roster spots in Kansas City. Cochrane, a 2022 undrafted rookie, spent most of the season on the Chiefs’ practice squad, but he was able to log a tackle in the team’s Super Bowl victory vs. the Eagles. Funny name or not — that is more than I will ever accomplish.
Bootle is another undrafted free agent, hailing from the 2021 NFL Draft this time. While the Nebraska product appeared in a couple of games since then, most of his time with the franchise has been spent with the practice squad. That makes no difference to Kelce.
The seven-time All-Pro tight end is an equal-opportunity trash talker. It doesn’t matter if you are six years old or seventy-six — anyone can get it. Rarely does Kelce ever get physical with his teammates, but it has already happened twice during this year’s training camp.
Kelce is being ‘Mean’ to teammates at Chiefs training camp
The first occurred on Friday when Bootle came over to Kelce following a catch. The 5-foot-9 defensive back slapped at the ball, much to the dismay of the star tight end, leading to a couple of smacks to Bootle’s face mask. Nothing came of it as the practice continued without any further issues.
On Saturday, Kelce found himself in a similar situation. Cochrane bumped into the 33-year-old after the play concluded. Unlike with Bootle the day before, Kelce loaded up and put some force into a strong left hook. Alas, punching someone with a helmet on typically does more damage to the puncher rather than the one being punched.
Kelce is a known competitor who wears his heart on his sleeve. These scuffles are likely nothing more than an attempt to energize his teammates. But perhaps the Taylor Swift phone number fiasco has Kelce on edge? All jokes aside, Bootle and Cochrane got a taste of what it’s like to defend the Chiefs’ superstar pass catcher. I bet they are happy he’s a teammate rather than an opponent.
