Disrespect by Madden is something NFL players have grown accustomed to. But in the latest Madden 24 ratings drop, Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen was hit with a slap in the face. The 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist did not land a spot inside of the top 20 players at his position.

Madden 24 Gives Tariq Woolen A Laughable Rating

After somehow falling to the fifth round at the 2022 NFL Draft, general manager John Schneider added to his laundry list of steals by selecting one of the best players available — at No. 153, no less. Woolen, a receiver turned defender, blossomed in Year 1.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound star moves like a gazelle and flexes the ball skills you’d expect from a former pass catcher. He parlayed these traits into an astonishing six interceptions, tying for the league lead as a rookie. On top of that, Woolen only allowed a 55.9 completion rate on passes throw his way. Lockdown corner personified.

Unfortunately, his real life success did not fetch a sparkling rating from the Madden 24 development team. Video games have no bearing on the stuff that actually matters in the NFL, but it is hard to not feel some type of disrespect when the rating checks in far lower than it should.

Woolen has always played with a huge chip on his shoulder, so he doesn’t need the extra motivation. However, in a game that we all grew up playing, it is something the 24-year-old will surely make note of.

The names that ranked higher than Tariq Woolen on the Madden 24 ratings include:

•Jalen Ramsey (97)

•Jaire Alexander (95)

•Patrick Surtain II (94)

•Sauce Gardner (93)

•Marlon Humphrey (93)

•Darius Slay (92)

•Stephon Gilmore (91)

•Marshon Lattimore (90)

•Tre’Davious White (90)

•Denzel Ward (88)

•A.J. Terrell (87)

•Trevon Diggs (87)

•Kendall Fuller (87)

•Charvarius Ward (87)

•Chidobe Awuzie (85)

•Tyson Campbell (85)

•Patrick Peterson (85)

•Jamel Dean (85)

•James Bradberry (85)

•Kenny Moore II (84)

And those are just the 20 names we know about to this point. Woolen sits at an 82 overall, well below several names that have no business being placed ahead of the UTSA product. No disrespect to these guys on the list, but even my grandma could tell that Woolen is superior. He is a bonafide top 10 cornerback in the NFL — whether Madden thinks so or not.
