6 players to avoid at your Fantasy Football draft
By Hunter Haas
Fantasy Football Name To Avoid No. 3: Deebo Samuel, WR, Niners
ADP: 36 (WR19)
Deebo Samuel is a phenomenal player; don’t get me wrong. He is a highly coveted dual-threat option in fantasy football, but the acquisition of Christian McCaffery really hurt his value. Since the Niners traded for CMC midway through the 2022 season, Samuel averaged less than three rushing attempts and a pedestrian four catches for 41 yards per game.
This netted Deebo a WR34 finish, albeit with a handful of missed games knocking down his volume. Still, with the presence of McCaffery, it is clear that head coach Kyle Shanahan was only using Samuel in the backfield out of necessity, serving as a troubling sign for fantasy managers.
Not to mention the emergence of Brandon Aiyuk opposite Samuel, as the former first-rounder eclipsed 1,000 yards for the first time in his career in 2022; healthy George Kittle always eats up targets, too. Whoever winds up starting for the Niners, they are unlikely to supply enough volume to justify taking Deebo in the third round.
