Saints: 3 reasons New Orleans will win the NFC South crown in 2023
By Hunter Haas
No. 1: Derek Carr Is The Best NFC South QB
First and foremost, the quarterback position has a steady hand guiding the ship. For all the faults in Carr’s game, he is a durable, reliable signal-caller that a coach can always count on getting the most out of. Paired with Allen, the 32-year-old passer aims to make the Raiders look foolish for letting him go.
He is used to a stacked arsenal of weapons from his time with the Silver and Black, and lucky for him, the Saints are packed to the brim with weapons. Veteran Michael Thomas is looking to reclaim a spot on the pantheon of NFL wide receivers, while second-year player Chris Olave is poised for a sophomore leap.
Star running back Alvin Kamara could face a suspension to open the 2023 season, but hopefully, for Carr and Co., it will be a short one. Even if Kamara must sit out, the team’s most recent third-round pick, Kendre Miller, is ready to shoulder the load as a rookie. The TCU product might take over the RB1 role and never look back.
If the offensive line bounces back and remains healthy, the Saints’ new quarterback should have a strong debut campaign. It helps that Carr is considerably better in a dome setting, lining up well with New Orleans, as it plays home games at the world-famous Caesars Superdome.
