NFC North: Gervon Dexter, DT, Chicago Bears – Round 2, Pick 22

Gervon Dexter immediately upgrades the Chicago Bears porous run defense and has the physical tools to become a disruptive pass-rush force at the three-technique defensive tackle position.

Game film shows a 6’6″, 310-pound impressive athlete who was a menace against the run at Florida. Along with that demonstrated athleticism are questions about why he was regularly slow with his first step off the ball, although once off and engaged, he’s a sight to behold.

According to coaches with both the Bears and Gators, this was partly due to Dexter’s role in the Gators’ defensive scheme.

Dexter is still relatively new to football. He was focused on basketball in high school and didn’t join the football team until his junior year. Hoop Highlight films show an exciting, coordinated, and explosive basketball player.

As he continues to hone his craft under NFL coaching, he has the potential to develop into a special player.
