NFL head coaches hot seat: Brandon Staley, Los Angeles Chargers

There was a real case to be made that Brandon Staley should have been fired after how the Los Angeles Chargers season ended.

Staley has a 19-15 record in the regular season and led the Chargers to the playoffs in his second season as head coach. Unfortunately, however, that playoff game saw the Chargers lose 31-30 after leading 27-0 early in the game.

The Chargers did not do too much in NFL free agency but got Justin Herbert a big-bodied receiver in the draft in TCU’s Quinton Johnston. Their biggest offseason move, however, was the offensive coaching staff overhaul.

They opted to fire their offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and passing game coordinator Shane Day and hire former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to run the offense.

With a better offensive coaching staff, Staley will get another chance to get to the playoffs and get a win, but if not, he will be on the chopping block come January.
