Can the Broncos return to the playoffs in 2023?

The Broncos sent shockwaves around the league last offseason by acquiring quarterback Russell Wilson for a jaw-dropping haul. Three players and several draft picks, including multiple Day 1 and 2 selections, left all of Denver’s eggs in Wilson’s basket.

As we all know by now, things could not have went worse for the franchise in 2022. Wilson regressed mightily, struggling to adjust to the new system under then-head coach Nathaniel Hackett. On top of that, Wilson’s replacement in Seattle, Geno Smith, put together one of the most accurate campaigns in NFL history.

To continue the misery, the Broncos limped to five wins, securing a top-five selection at the 2023 NFL Draft. The bad news? That was a pick owed to the Seahawks. Even worse? Seattle also owned the team’s second-rounder, which ended up landing near the top of the round.

The Seahawks rode Smith’s surprising success to a playoff berth, rubbing even more salt in the wounds of the Denver faithful. Although the Wilson tenure started off with a whimper, the franchise made moves this offseason that provide optimism toward the 2023 season.
