NFC Power Rankings: Cowboys, Seahawks Rank High On The List
By Hunter Haas
4: Seattle Seahawks
My dark horse pick to win the Super Bowl next season is the Seattle Seahawks. The franchise checks in at No. 4 on our updated NFC Power Rankings. Quarterback Geno Smith earned a contract extension this offseason and is set to build on his impressive stint with Seattle.
The offense got even better with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Zach Charbonnet headed to the Pacific Northwest. The trademark defense brought in Devon Witherspoon and Derick Hall, giving Pete Carroll an embarrassment of riches on that side of the ball.
3: Dallas Cowboys
It is fun to dunk on the Cowboys for their failures in the playoffs since the Troy Aikman days. All jokes aside, Dallas has one of the better rosters from top to bottom in the NFL. Quarterback Dak Prescott is blossoming into a top signal-caller, and Micah Parsons is arguably the best non-quarterback in the league. The front office traded for veterans Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, hoping these two can get the Cowboys over the hump.
2: San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are the most interesting team to watch this offseason. They’ve had a Super Bowl-caliber roster most of Kyle Shanahan’s tenure but have been unable to keep their starting quarterback healthy for a full slate. Brock Purdy is recovering from a shoulder injury, and Trey Lance has much to prove to supplant the former last overall selection. A healthy quarterback means San Fran will play late into January. The team might get there anyway despite injuries.
1: Philadelphia Eagles
To be the best, you have to beat the best. Until someone beats the Eagles, they sit perched atop the NFC Power Rankings. After locking Jalen Hurts up to a lucrative long-term deal, Philadelphia continued improving the roster with savvy signings and steals in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The defense added three more pillars from one of the best college defenses in football history. Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, and Kelee Ringo join former Georgia teammates Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean in the City of Brotherly Love. As is the case in real life… the rich keep getting richer, and there is no sign of slowing up. Howie Roseman, take a bow.
