17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Bryan Bresee, DL, Clemson

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made the rounds at pro days and made it known, which is often how the play the NFL Draft. Offensive tackle is something that makes sense, but it’s growing more unlikely we see it early. Instead, it’s defense in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Bryan Bresee has dealt with a lot recently, but the upside is tantalizing as a gap-attacking three-down player. His technique must get better, but his power and athleticism is worth a look this early.

18. Detroit Lions: Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa

Yes, the first (potentially) big surprise in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft! The Detroit Lions miss out on some edge rushers, and don’t love the fits at this point. Instead, they get the guy at linebacker in Jack Campbell, whose athleticism actually translates into coverage chops and instincts in space. He can do it all and be the guy next to Malcolm Rodriguez while Alex Anzalone provides depth.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have other needs, most notably at left tackle, but the pass rush ability of Nolan Smith is too much for Todd Bowles is too much to handle. His explosiveness off the edge gives Bowles a chance to get even more creative with his fronts.

20. Green Bay Packers (via SEA): Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee

After a trade back, the Green Bay Packers are finally on the clock in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Yes, tight end is a need, but the class is deep. Instead, they look to the tackle position that might be a bit shallow by the time 2024 rolls around. Darnell Wright is a great right tackle who can come in and dominate as a pass protector right away.
