What should we be watching for in regards to the 2023 NFL Draft as the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine takes place this week?

We’ve reached a major point in the 2023 NFL Draft process. The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine is set to get underway this week in Indianapolis. For a week, 2023 NFL Draft prospects will be tested medically, psychologically, intellectually, and physically in a demanding job interview.

From another point of view, it’s time to find the next recruits for the Avengers, the super athletes who will inevitably “jump up” draft boards. Plenty of teams are paying attention to see if the elite athletes, especially ones mentioned in Bruce Feldman’s freak list, match up with what they see on film. If not, adjustments and re-checks need to be made.

2023 NFL Draft: 2023 NFL Scouting Combine Preview

Is it going to be a week of overreaction? Of course! But that’s just part of the fun that is the NFL Draft process, and what makes it entertaining TV and an interest in the process that is growing. So, let’s roll with the combine preview, position by position.

It’s important to note film matters most, but athleticism is important to a lot of teams, so big weeks are important for a lot of players.

QBs: The Bryce Young Question

Alas, we’ve reached the endgame of the “how big is Bryce Young?” saga. It’s taken many turns, with an interview next to 5-foot-9 Mark Ingram, to a circulating picture with ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes, who insists she was wearing heels in a photo where the height between the two was similar.

So what are the numbers? Let’s throw out a prediction.

Height: 5101

Weight: 188 pounds

We’ll see how a hair over 5’10” and 188 pounds works out, but it’s possible Young is even shorter than 5’10”. These numbers will officially pull him off some boards, just due to the concern of accumulating several hits over a potential decade of a career. It feels likely that Young plays well immediately, but can accruing hits over time cause him to miss a plethora of games? That’s why some teams will say no.

In other news, Anthony Richardson might run really fast, by quarterback standards that is. He’s a phenomenal athlete with a rocket arm, and him and Will Levis might have a field day throwing during on-field workouts, especially on deep balls. The NFL world might truly be enthralled with them.

Watch out for Stetson Bennett running the 40. He might be faster than many believe. Don’t be surprised if it’s sub-4.60.
