According to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, the Houston Texans are preparing to take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. While this outcome was expected, it sets up a scenario where the team could trade up with the Bears to keep teams from jumping them in the draft order.

Unlikely Option: Bryce Young

While it is no guarantee that Bryce Young goes No. 1 overall, the Alabama quarterback is the leader in the clubhouse. If CJ Stroud, Will Levis, or Anthony Richardson get taken as the No. 1 pick, that would leave Young available for Houston without trading up.

More Likely Options: CJ Stroud or Will Levis

The Texans will most likely have to decide between CJ Stroud or Will Levis if another team trades up in front of them. Levis is more of a project than Stroud but some could argue that he has a higher ceiling than the former Buckeye. While Levis arguably has a higher ceiling, Stroud is more NFL-ready and will be able to lead the Texans into the DeMeco Ryans Era as a rookie.

Stoud is the more popular pick to go at the No. 2 pick due to his overall polish and lack of weaknesses. Stroud has a very strong arm and good accuracy. Levis boasts solid arm talent and loads of potential as a passer, but he is widely inaccurate right now.

Texans Can Add a Young Pass Catcher to Grow with Whatever QB They Select in the 2023 NFL Draft

The Texans might choose to go with someone who can help on the defensive line, if one of Tyree Wilson or Bryan Bresee ends up falling outside the top 10. Another option that makes sense is to take a wide receiver that a quarterback can grow with as a young player in the NFL.

With Houston owning the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the front office could choose to go after a wide receiver to support whatever quarterback it ends up picking. Going all-in on offense would give a very good support system for the team’s new signal-caller.

Any of Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, or Will Levis would have a chance to succeed quickly with a rookie wide receiver in tow. This Houston offense has a lot of work to do in order to become an average unit, but there is plenty of high-end potential if the 2023 NFL Draft goes well. A new era is officially underway for the Texans.
