The Cincinnati Bengals add a rare talent in round one of this seven-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft, and reload an already strong defense.

There may have been a little doubt entering 2022 after a magical run last season, but the Cincinnati Bengals are here to stay. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and more are going to be a thorn in the side of the AFC for a long time. The offense has proven they can adjust under Zac Taylor, and the defense under Lou Anarumo has been outstanding at handling top quarterbacks.

If Anarumo returns, expect the defense to be strong again up front. They do have free agents to worry about, headlined by safeties Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell. Hayden Hurts is also a free agent this March. Jonah Williams will be in 2024.

So, there’s time to reload and get guys back, but reloading for another run really comes with hitting on draft picks. Cincinnati lost the AFC title game to a Chiefs team that got a ton out of their rookie class. The Bengals should be able to do that as well. Let’s look at how Cincinnati can get things rolling for 2023 with a seven round 2023 NFL Mock Draft, featuring a unicorn in the first round.

Round 1, 28th Overall: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia

It was mentioned above that Hurst is a free agent, and what a move this would be to replace him. This pick probably won’t be met with a ton of excitement, but it should be for the Cincinnati Bengals. Georgia tight end Darnell Washington is a rare player at tight end that can open the door for so many things in Cincinnati.

Washington is a force multiplier in the run game. He can operate as a third tackle to protect Joe Burrow, and help the Bengals stay successful as a running offense out of 11 personnel. Not to mention, Washington is an impressive athlete for his size (6’7″ and 270 pounds) that can help in the red zone and secure hotly contested throws in the middle of the field. Look out with this offense.
