AFC East

Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen

Josh Allen is practically the face of the Buffalo Bills, so there’s no question that he will be starting in 2023, but the offense needs to change dramatically around him. With a leading rusher who only managed just over 800 rushing yards in 2022, Allen is being asked to do too much for the Bills. With better offensive line play and the addition of another target opposite Stefon Diggs, Buffalo can quickly reload around Allen to make a deeper playoff run in 2023.

Miami Dolphins: Tua Tugavailoa

After starting the season 8-1 as a starter, Tua Tugavailoa and the Miami Dolphins lost his final four starts. The Dolphins have surrounded Tugavailoa with great talent, especially at receiver, and were nearly able to beat the Bills in the playoffs with their third string quarterback. A healthy Tugavailoa could be a problem for the league in 2023, as the young lefty looks to join the elite class of quarterbacks in the AFC.

New England Patriots: Mac Jones

Mac Jones and the New England Patriots seem to finally be making progress offensively, transitioning offensive coordinators from Matt Patricia in 2022 to the newly hired Bill O’Brien for 2023. With an actual offensive system to work within, Jones should return to the Pro Bowl-caliber level we saw him play at during his rookie season.

New York Jets: Derek Carr

With one of the most talented young cores across the NFL, the New York Jets certainly seem to be a quarterback away from really competing at the top of the AFC. A veteran like Derek Carr, who averaged nearly 250 passing yards per game over his nine-year stretch as the Raiders’ starter, may be the secret to truly unlocking the offense’s potential in the Meadowlands.
