Predicting The Starting Quarterback For Each NFL Team In 2023
By Peter Jurich
AFC South
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud
Unless the Houston Texans trade up to the first pick with Chicago, it is likely that they will take the second quarterback off the board in the draft, but Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud would be a strong consolation prize compared to anyone else they could’ve selected. Stroud appears to be potentially the most league-ready option, and with a strong arm quarterback and great size for a quarterback, he could be an instant starter for Houston.
Indianapolis Colts: Will Levis
The Indianapolis Colts are another AFC South team desperately in need of a franchise quarterback, and Kentucky’s Will Levis might be their answer. Levis might be available for the Colts at number 4 overall, and could be the long-term answer after plugging and playing veteran QBs for the past several seasons. Levis has a strong arm and the athletic dynamism to make throws all over the field, and could be the face of a re-tooling in Indy.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence
In his first full season with a non-Urban Meyer head coach, Trevor Lawrence played up to the billing of a quarterback who was picked first overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars just two years ago. Lawrence, who has played all 34 regular season games in his career, improved his TD-INT ratio in 2022, going from 12-17 as a rookie to 25-8 under Doug Pederson. In only his second season, Lawrence proved that he can hang with the top QBs in the NFL.
Tennessee Titans: Ryan Tannehill
The Tennessee Titans had a disappointing season in 2022, but not all of the blame should be put on Ryan Tannehill. After trading away their number one receiver in A.J. Brown and losing left tackle Taylor Lewan to injury, Tannehill was left with not a lot to work with on offense. Tannehill, who is under contract through next season, may have numbered days in Tennessee, but he will likely remain the starter in 2023.
