Round 2, 54th Overall: Brandon Joseph, S, Notre Dame

This pick might be a little need-based for the Los Angeles Chargers. Defensively, they have their versatile threat-eraser in Derwin James on the back end. It’ll be interesting to see if the Chargers have a defined plan for J.T. Woods. Even still, true help working in a deep half/quarters look with the ability to read things out and work downhill is what the team needs.

Brandon Joseph had a phenomenal 2020 season at Northwestern (six picks in eight games) and fell off the radar a bit. He transferred to Notre Dame and had a strong season, yet an under-the-radar one. Joseph’s range is impressive, as are the ball skills. He can quickly diagnose what’s going on in front of him and jump into windows in the short and intermediate areas of the field. He doesn’t have stopping power as a tackler, but he’s reliable to slow down guys and wrap up in space.

Round 3, 85th Overall: Rakim Jarrett, WR, Maryland

Finding speed at receiver is one of the more important priorities for the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason. When it comes to the 2023 NFL Draft, there will be multiple options, and they don’t have to force the issue in the first round. There will be talent here in the third round, like Maryland’s Rakim Jarrett.

Jarrett’s speed comes in handy in many situations. From winning downfield and stacking corners early on fly routes, or getting early separation with dynamic acceleration in the quick game, Jarrett will create some windows for Herbert and allow the deep passing game to thrive.
