Round 3, No. 67: Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma

The defense added two starters with the first two selections of the 2023 NFL Draft, but now we steer our attention toward the other side of the ball. The Cardinals traded for Marquise “Hollywood” Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft but will have to re-sign him following the 2023 season. Even if they reach a long-term pact with Hollywood, which they expect to happen, the pass-catching group could use some more firepower.

DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown form one of the better duos at wide receiver, but in the pass-heavy scheme, Arizona routinely sees three wide receivers on the field at a time. Rondale Moore is a fun piece to the puzzle and could earn more snaps in year three, but that should not stop the front office from adding a fourth receiver to the fold.

Marvin Mims from Oklahoma makes a lot of sense here at No. 67 in the mock draft. Kyler Murray and Hollywood Brown are OU alums, so Mims would feel right at home. Kliff Kingsbury, if he returns for 2023, would have an embarrassment of riches at his disposal.

This move is about the future, as much as it is about 2023. There are bigger needs on the roster, to be sure, but with the uncertainty around Hollywood’s future, and with DeAndre Hopkins now on the wrong side of 30, it makes sense to address the positional group.

Marvin Mims would go higher in this mock draft if he was just a tad faster. Still, Mims’ play-making ability and deep ball tracking are NFL-level traits, and should help Kyler Murray continue his upward trajectory.
