Round 6, 211th Overall: Brett Neilon, C, USC

The offensive line rebuild finishes up here for the Los Angeles Rams. Brian Allen fits for the Rams because of the initial quicks and movement skills to reach block and work the second level easily. So, finding a zone type at center to back him up is the way to go. Brett Neilon is that player, who won’t be a fit for every offense, but Sean McVay’s is definitely one of them.

Round 7, 222nd Overall: Mekhi Blackmon, CB, USC

We go right back to the USC well here in the seventh round, as adding a different type than Julius Brents at corner is the way to go. Brents can play on the perimeter, and Mekhi Blackmon can be versatile enough to do both. He’s a strong cover corner on the outside, allowing just a 47.6 passer rating in coverage with three interceptions and seven pass breakups. What stands out is how well he defends the run and tackles, something he’ll have to do from the nickel spot.

Round 7, 254th Overall: Josh Whyle, TE, Cincinnati

The tight end room of the Los Angeles Rams isn’t necessarily one that inspires a ton of confidence. Tyler Higbee is average for the position, and they’re still holding out hope for Brycen Hopkins at a position that often is full of late bloomers. Instead, let’s go get another receiving threat at the position in Josh Whyle, who can operate well in the middle of the field as a smooth route runner and sufficient burst to work up the seam. He’ll offer another threat in the red zone as well.
