17. New England Patriots: Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois

The New England Patriots are sitting on the edge between contender and bottom of the AFC. The offense still lacks some playmakers at receiver and tight end, and the defense has played inconsistent ball. It’s likely that the Patriots will be looking for the next lockdown corner, and Devon Witherspoon could be it. His skills in man coverage would fit right in with how Bill Belichick wants to run a defense.

18. Washington Commanders: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma

The Washington Commanders are in the thick of the playoff race with Taylor Heinicke at the helm, and they still have Sam Howell to evaluate at some point. It feels like they won’t force the issue at quarterback, so this 2023 NFL Mock Draft looks a different direction. Washington has offensive line depth, but quality still matters, as does quantity of potential starters. Anton Harrison is a fabulous pass protector who can help deal with the loaded pass rushing division that is the NFC East.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely lose Tom Brady this offseason, but we’ll cross the quarterback bridge when we get to it. Another issue is potentially losing both Sean Bunting and Jamel Dean in the secondary. Cam Smith is a big, physical lockdown corner who can thrive on an island in a Todd Bowles blitz-heavy scheme.

20. Seattle Seahawks: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson

The Seahawks are back up in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, and while they could look at quarterback as well, Geno Smith continues to play well and should receive an extension. Getting a running mate for Jordyn Brooks makes sense too, and Trenton Simpson would fit well as a run a chase type. He’s got hybrid size, but he plays physical downhill and is great in coverage.
