There have been some growing pains, especially head-coach related, but with Doug Pederson in year two, Trevor Lawrence is finding his stride with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

For young players in the NFL, all it can take is one game to find a groove, stride, or whatever nomenclature one might like to use in this instance. That game, or even a moment, can galvanize into stardom for a career. Many times, with top NFL Draft picks, we remember the game that things slowed down, or a game that they took over, and their desperation to win shone through.

That’s what we saw on Sunday with Trevor Lawrence, as the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Ravens in a 28-27 comeback win. Lawrence was dominant in two late touchdown drives, and flashed all of the traits he showed in college in a bow of consistency.

Lawrence stayed calm in the pocket in the fourth quarter, making slight adjustments to maneuver up and to the side to avoid the pass rush of Baltimore with impressive subtlety. He worked through concepts calmly, and hit a backside dig to kickstart the first drive. He made some impressive tight window throws, from a great corner throw in between two defenders, to a dime to Zay Jones with great touch.

His first touchdown pass was a quick read, and he took advantage of the leverage Jamal Agnew had off of motion. Lawrence’s second touchdown was a beautiful touch throw to Marvin Jones. The two-point conversion to win was a well-placed quick out, on the money to take the lead.

It might be too late of a galvanizing moment for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, but this play from Trevor Lawrence is hopefully here to stay. We’ve been waiting to see a game where the ceiling was showcased, and we got it in this game. It isn’t just what he can do physically, it’s consistently making smart decisions and big time throws when demanded. Those are the ingredients for a top 10 quarterback, and Trevor Lawrence might be on his way to reaching that very soon, especially with more help on the way in 2023.
